02/20/2024 75 Years of Innovation and Excellence at Moeller Aerospace

Category:

In 1949, against the backdrop of a post-war America, Heinz and Adriene Moellering embarked on a journey that would shape the future of aerospace manufacturing. Their vision, commitment, and hard work laid the foundation for what we now know as Moeller Aerospace. As we celebrate our 75th anniversary, it’s time to reflect on the remarkable journey of a company that started as a family business in Michigan and has since evolved into a global leader in aerospace technology.

1949-1979: Humble Beginnings to Aerospace Excellence

Heinz and Adriene Moellering’s dream of securing a future for their family took root in 1949 when Moeller Manufacturing was established in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. The company’s first steps were modest, operating from a 1,000-square-foot facility. Over the next decade, Moeller experienced significant growth, expanding to its first substantial manufacturing facility in Canton, Michigan in 1959.

1962 marked a pivotal moment as Moeller entered the aerospace industry, crafting parts for industry giants like Pratt & Whitney and Aeroquip. This move set the stage for the company’s specialization in turbine engine components.

In 1979, Moeller expanded to Harbor Springs, Michigan, demonstrating the company’s commitment to meeting the growing demands of the aerospace industry.

1992-2015: Innovation, Expansion, and Click-Loc® Technology

The aerospace division continued to flourish, leading to a relocation from Canton to a larger facility in Wixom, Michigan, in 1992.

The same year marked a significant milestone with the invention of Click-Loc®, a self-locking device designed to replace lockwire. This innovation showcased Moeller’s commitment to advancing aerospace technology.

Over the years, Moeller experienced multiple expansions and technological breakthroughs. From Click-Loc® making its maiden voyage on a British Airways Boeing 777 in 1995 to mastering the machining of titanium aluminide in 2008, the company consistently pushed the boundaries of what was possible in aerospace manufacturing.

2016-2021: A New Chapter and Continued Excellence

In 2016, Moeller entered a new chapter when it was acquired by AE Industrial Partners, a move that positioned the company for even greater success within the aerospace, defense, and industrial markets.

The subsequent years witnessed further expansions, with significant increases in manufacturing space in both the Harbor Springs and Wixom facilities as well as a rebranding to Moeller Aerospace. In 2021, Moeller Aerospace completed vertical integration, designating the Harbor Springs plant as the Airfoil Center of Excellence and the Wixom plants as the Complex Components and Click-Loc® Technology Center.

A Legacy Soaring to New Horizons

As we celebrate Moeller Aerospace’s 75th anniversary, it’s clear that the company’s journey is one of resilience, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. From its humble beginnings in a Detroit suburb to becoming a global leader in aerospace technology, Moeller Aerospace’s story is a testament to the vision and dedication of its founders and the countless individuals who contributed to its success. Looking ahead, Moeller Aerospace is poised to continue shaping the future of aerospace technology, taking the industry to new heights for years to come.
